I hate ignorance

Followers (official of unofficial) you are in for a treat today, I have one amazing rant ahead for you all to read. It is brilliant, I was planning it last night whilst still in bed. You will not be dissapointed.

I may have actually lost my potential rantyness in the past few minutes because I was interruped by the constant 'pop' of people talking to me on Facebook. Nevertheless, I am still focused on the point that needs to be portrayed here. I have to warn you, this entire entry as far as I know is going to be based on politics. Last night at a mates party (which by the way was funny funny) I somehow managed to get into a conversation with two northern girls about politics. This was sparked off by a mate who proclaimed to them that I was a UKIP supporter. My reasoning for this I assume is that it was another attempt to try and attract people to 'put down' UKIP as so far previous attempts was utterly useless.

Anyway, this then led too me having the dirtiest look ever from a girl. It was the same look you would get if someone found out you were a paedophile (I always get that spelling wrong) or a rapist or something on those lines. It was the whole looked at me up and down about three times and then basically just had the look of clear disgust on her face. She then came out with the very simplistic comment of "Why do you like UKIP". To which I naturally replied proclaiming their views on the EU, but never really got further than this due to the interrogation they gave me on my political views. These two girls said that up north is all very Labour (which is true) and went on to say that they hated 'right wing' such as conservatives, UKIP and of course BNP. Infact the two girls managed to, like every socialist, link the BNP and UKIP together. What a surprise! Apparently UKIP are just BNP in "a shirt and tie" and you should not vote for them because they are a racist party. Again, like every argument I put across, I had to describe how UKIP are completely different to BNP with regards to the issue of race and immigration. The perfect thing was then going on to say that not all of BNP's views are bad which again prompted a horrified look from the girls. By this I meant that their eurosceptic view is good, their political correctness views are good and views on crime and punishment are reasonable. In fact I would vote BNP if it wasnt for their very harsh and ultimately racist and homophobic views. Ok, that is quite a major factor, but what I mean is not all of their views are awful.

I was then posed the question of "what kind of area do you live in?". How this relates to my political views I dont know. But her idea was that "if I dont live in a poor part of the city, then I have no idea how EU money is spent". Ha! That was just the ultimate failure on behalf of any person who claims to have an understanding of politics. Apparently if you dont live in a poor area you have no understanding... hmm. So let me get this straight, the party that were voted 2nd in European Elections are all living in the slums of the city? Of course not. That point just makes absolutely no sence and again was just another weak attempt at putting down right wing ideology. In fact they didnt like it when I commented saying that voting Labour or Lib Dem was a waste of a vote and that, expecially voting Lib Dem, was just a "sit on the fence" vote. I think I also annoyed them when I posed the question of "What are you policies then? Whats the difference of voting Labour to Lib Dem?". One response from the girls "I dont want Labour or Conservatives to get into power, so im going half way and voting Lib Dem. But why?!?! This is one of the things I hate about Britain, ignorance. Oh yeh, lets use my vote to vote for a party just because I 'hate' Labour. Why not put your vote to use and vote a real party, who will really make a difference rather than throw away your vote. In all honesty, I have more respect for a person who would vote Green Party or any left wing party than someone who votes a party despite having no idea what their views are.

No doubt you will hear more of this rant throughout college, but I am finding it hard to write down a transcript and put my points across, its very difficult. I will leave you with this thought though.

Is it right that the EU has made a governing decision that the UK does not get priority tickets to London 2012 Olympics, but instead it will go to a random ballot?

Is that fair that UK taxpayers money, which of course has gone to fuelling the project, mean that the UK does not get priority tickets?

x
